Innovative adaptive re-use has seen Sydney’s iconic Walsh Bay reimagined as a global arts venue. The precinct has been awarded the prestigious NSW Architecture Medallion and Greenway Award for Heritage in the 2022 NSW Architecture Awards.
State Heritage-listed structures and finishes were restored to preserve the maritime essence, while incorporating technical requirements of local businesses. Steel framed balconies, elevated walkways and glass-clad lifts were also incorporated to capture the iconic Sydney views.
Highly collaborative stakeholder engagement was critical to support the sensitive works associated with the heritage industrial structures. Spill management techniques and extensive structural strengthening strategies were incorporated to protect Sydney’s marine environment and harbour.
