Smoking Ceremony – Integrated Mental Health Complex (IMHC)

NAIDOC Week 2025

To celebrate NAIDOC Week, a smoking ceremony was held at the Integrated Mental Health Complex (IMHC) construction site. Over 100 guests attended, with the event livestreamed to RCC projects and offices across NSW, QLD and the ACT.

Designed with input from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and guided by connecting with Country principles, the IMHC will be a culturally safe and inclusive space.

Dharug Elder Uncle Colin Locke led the Welcome to Country, joined by Liame Harte from our Indigenous advisory partner Tika. Local Dharug artist Leanne Watson contributed a custom artwork reflecting the connection between Country, community and the IMHC, which will be displayed in the site office.

The project’s procurement strategy supports Aboriginal participation. Nearby childcare centres received culturally themed books illustrated by Leanne Watson to support early learning about First Nations Culture.
