The 24,375sqm NewCold Sydney facility comprises a 35m-high automated freezer warehouse, temperature-controlled dispatch areas, technical plant, offices and logistics hardstand.
Central to the project was NSW’s first freezer clad racking system, where the storage racking forms the primary building structure and supports the roof and external cladding. Integration with the Automated Storage and Retrieval System required exacting tolerances across the 35m-high structure, with ongoing survey verification maintaining alignment between the racking, automation and façade.
Construction was carefully sequenced around completion of the freezer slab and installation of prefabricated racking manufactured in Germany. Close coordination of façade interfaces, penetrations and the thermal envelope maintained continuity of the vapour barrier, while an Oxygen Reduction System was integrated to address the specialised fire engineering requirements of the automated freezer environment.
